The Department of Languages was carved out of the Department of Humanities on the 21st of June 2004, due to the large number of subjects under that department.

The department accommodates different languages and culture. It has two modern European languages - English and French and two Nigerian languages - Yoruba and Igbo. The importance of these languages cannot be over emphasized. The English language, apart from being our Lingua Franca, is a kind of "sea which receives tributaries from every region under heaven". It is the medium of instruction designed and taught to help students overcome basic errors in the use of the language. The French language serves as a complementary language to the English language in the school. It has officially become our nations second official language. The two other subjects; Yoruba and Igbo are Nigerian languages which enable students to acquire knowledge of their mother tongue and culture.

For smooth and effective running of the department, there are four units. Each unit is headed by a head of subject who reports directly to the Head of Department and asists in certain areas pertaining to the subjects.

The languages department has the largest staff strength because of its importance as "language is the mother of other subjects". It is quite interesting to note that the department has more than sixteen (16) capable teachers who possess the ability to teach the languages well and also have command of the various subjects they handle. The language laboratory is a well-equipped, spacious and air-conditioned hall that sits more than thirty students. The speech aspect of all lanbguages are learnt in the language laboratory.

Since the inauguration of the department, it has championed various activities and engaged in both internal and external competitions. The department has some clubs under its supervision. These are: the Press club, the Literary and Debating Society and the Drama Club. Internally, there have been inter-class debates to assist the students gain confidence in themselves. To the credit of the school, many prizes have been won as a result of the department's involvement in taking students out for various competitions.

In May 2005, the department started an annual event, tagged "Language Week" which is to promote Nigerian culture.

Tthe Language department is, by God's Grace the source from which every other department in the school derives its source. For this, the school (CRC) has great interest in promoting the department. In the last SSCE (WAEC and NECO), the department performed very well in English language.
